About The Role
Housing Pathways Officer
 
We are looking for a Housing Officer to work within our busy housing needs and advice team. You will predominately work with singles and couples to prevent their homelessness by creating personalised housing plan with the customer. You will help customers to remain in their home by working in partnership with other agencies such as P3 or negotiating with family members or with social and private landlords. The role is also pivotal in helping customer to access suitable and affordable private rented accommodation and raising funds to pay for rent in advance and deposits. The role also requires you to assess and triage new customers that approach AVDC and refer them appropriately to the correct team for help. You will also be expected to work closely with external agencies such as AHAG, Youth Concern and Amicus to tackle homelessness.
 
You will be a great people person and able to build relationships quickly and demonstrate an empathetic approach to our customers in extremely stressful circumstances. you will be a great communicator and ideally have a working knowledge of the main principles of the new Homeless Reduction Act. You will be an excellent negotiator and should have demonstrable experience of negotiating with landlords.
 
The role is to provide homeless prevention strategies and comprehensive advice to clients facing homelessness. You will also be responsible for providing support to customers and helping them complete a personal housing plan, and will be responsible for a high caseload including helping customers access funds and other sources of help. You will help clients access accommodation in both the social and private rented sector, including the /Councils own private rent scheme and will work closely with the Housing Advisors, Debt Advisors, bucks Home Choice assessors or internal stakeholders. It is vital that you are able to support clients in a sensitive, pragmatic and empathetic way.

On 01 November 2018, it was announced by the government that the five councils in Buckinghamshire will become a single unitary authority in April 2020.  Any changes made to the structure of local authorities in the county may affect council employees in the future.  Therefore, the five councils have agreed to restrict applications to this position to current employees of the five councils for a period of 14 days. External candidates are welcome to submit their application at any point; however, if a current employee applies during this seven day period, their application will be assessed prior to the council considering applications from external candidates.
