Finance Business Partner (1 year fixed term contract)

The Corporate finance team is growing to ensure it provides excellent, customer focused support to departments across the Council. We are looking for an enthusiastic, dynamic and commercially focused Management Accountant to join our team at Aylesbury Vale District Council.   This will be for a fixed period of time, to cover Maternity leave. It is anticipated that the placement will start in early August 2019

The post holder will provide a professional, responsive and high profile financial management service to a number of service departments of the Council and should have excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.

The Finance Business partner will provide insight, review and challenge across many services and enhance innovative ways of working to maximise financial performance. The post holder will  provide budget holders with management accounting information to support decision making and will challenge commercial managers on sales, costs management and margins.

Reporting to the Corporate Finance Manager, the post holder will be responsible for providing direct financial management support. We are looking for someone who is future focused, with the ability to influence, innovate and engage with and support our service managers. 

The post holder will work within the existing finance team to ensure that budget holders receive accurate and timely financial management information, and provide expert financial advice to support service delivery. In addition, the post holder will ensure that financial systems are kept up to date and reflect the agreed budgets; and that detailed financial forecasts are prepared, with clear variance analysis produced in conjunction with budget managers.

The post holder will take the lead role in engaging with Budget holders to ensure financial procedures and processes are efficient and effective, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.

The job is a wide-ranging role, encompassing financial performance management and business planning which are integral to the achievement of the Council's financial objectives.

A proactive approach is essential to ensure that financial resources are used efficiently and effectively, to encourage a culture of continuous improvement and innovation, and the role is also key to the development of financial plans to ensure the long term financial stability and viability of the Council departments.

The post holder should be:

  • CCAB part qualified accountant or have relevant experience of management accounts
  • A commercial thinker who is able to work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders in a change orientated environment
  • Experienced in advising and working with budget holders within a large organisation
  • Able to build relationships of trust with stakeholders to promote a customer focus
  • Able to analyse, interpret and present complex financial and non-financial data
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to prioritise workload
  • Able to deliver to tight deadlines

Working as a key member of the Corporate Finance Team, the post holder may also play a role in preparing for Unitary. 

The post holder will work on their own initiative and bring a sense of commercial acumen to a commercially focussed environment
