About The Role

Aylesbury Vale District Council are looking for motivated and ambitious Development Officers to work in our Planning Service

You will hold a Level 6 qualification in town/urban planning and be a full member of the RTPI, looking to work in a forward thinking and challenging development management environment.  You will be working in a technical role alongside other experienced planners in our major development team.  We will take your career progression seriously and ensure that you have a caseload that allows you to continue your professional development. 

As an experienced and skilled town planner, you will be working on complex urban and rural developments, making decisions under delegated authority and presenting cases to Strategic Committees.  You will be required to provide advice to a range of internal and external stakeholders and manage a varied caseload of major planning applications. 

You will bring experience of working on large and complex planning applications, but being able to demonstrate commercially-minded behaviours is as critical to this role as your planning expertise and knowledge of relevant legislation.  First and foremost, you will be interested in becoming one of the local authority’s technical experts on planning and development matters and motivated to continue your professional development in a busy planning service.

The Organisation

Aylesbury Vale District Council (AVDC) spans the northern half of Buckinghamshire and our offices are located in Aylesbury about 40 miles north west of London with direct rail links in to Marylebone.

AVDC covers the second largest local authority geographic area in England and has one of the highest housing growth rates in the UK, being located just outside the green belt.  Our Local Plan is scheduled for approval by Council this summer and makes provision for over 30,000 additional houses in the Vale.  On top of the opportunities that this growth represents we also have a number of challenging and interesting national infrastructure projects on our doorstep:

  • We are located in the East-West Oxford Cambridge growth corridor with the new Oxford Cambridge rail link passing through our area.

  • We have one of the longest stretches of the HS2 High Speed rail link passing through the Vale with all the challenges and opportunities that poses

  • Aylesbury has been nominated for Garden City status and planning for that development is currently underway.
