About The Role

Aylesbury Vale District Council are seeking three motivated and ambitious Development Officers to work in our Commercial Services team.

You will hold a Level 4 or above qualification in Town Planning as well as be eligible or have the ability to achieve a corporate membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute looking to work across a growing district. 

As an experienced Development Officer, you will work within a multi-disciplinary team supporting Principal Officers and Managers within planning to maintain a professional and high standard level of service  throughout. The ideal candidate would have had experience working with a wide range of stakeholders, including working alongside elected members and the development of the industry.

As the successful candidate, you will hold the ability to demonstate skills in research, analysis, problem solving and negoitation whilst having a  clear and precise understanding of the revelent legislations. Your core responsibilities will be the handling and delivery of planning applications which entails the ability to provide detailed advise and guidance to applicants, as well as evaluating appeals, preparing committee reports and dealing with enforcement matters. All of which will fall alongside AVDC’s policies and procedures delivering a professional commercial, customer focused service.

The Organisation

Aylesbury Vale District Council (AVDC) spans the northern half of Buckinghamshire and our offices are located in Aylesbury about 40 miles north west of London with direct rail links in to Marylebone.

AVDC covers the second largest local authority geographic area in England and has one of the highest housing growth rates in the UK, being located just outside the green belt.  Our Local Plan is scheduled for approval by Council this summer and makes provision for over 30,000 additional houses in the Vale.  On top of the opportunities that this growth represents we also have a number of challenging and interesting national infrastructure projects on our doorstep:

  • We are located in the East-West Oxford Cambridge growth corridor with the new Oxford Cambridge rail link passing through our area.

  • We have one of the longest stretches of the HS2 High Speed rail link passing through the Vale with all the challenges and opportunities that presents

  • Aylesbury has been nominated for Garden City status and planning for that development is currently underway.
